Leibovitz took on the task of capturing some of the sports biggest stars, including Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Landon Donavan L.A Galaxy/USA, Ivory Coast’s Didier Drogba, Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o, and Brazil’s Kaká. Not only did she succeed, she gave a whole new meaning to the word patriotism.
Sadly, most American's do not know of these stars like we do of our own N.F.L stars. But this is your chance to get into the sport. Crack open a beer and watch the World Cup. I promise you that you will not be disappointed. Beginning on June 11 South Africa opens the World Cup in Soweto against Mexico. After that, the shit hits the fan with England vs. U.S.A. on June 12 and from the so-called Group of Death—Ivory Coast vs. Portugal on June 15. Brazil vs. Ivory Coast on June 20, Portugal vs. Brazil on June 25.
