Oscar Not Sorry For Snubs

Last night many viewers realized that during the In Memorium phase of the broadcast, a couple of stars were shockingly left out, while one was thrown in.  Michael Jackson was part of the segment, which we get.  But to leave out stars like Bea Arthur, Farrah Fawcett and Ed McMahon was simply appalling.

"I would not say that it was an oversight," Leslie Unger, spokeswoman for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, tells E! News. "No matter how carefully and how conscientiously people address who is included, there are people who just simply can't be."

I missed that segment, but to include Michael Jackson (not an actor) and exclude Arthur, McMahon and Fawcett is inexcusable.

yeah, total fail on the academy's part. although i am pretty sure i saw the ghost of Bea Arthur on the red carpet at one point, so, at least she got some screen time.

What Cap said!

Also what Cap said. Of course, none of the three was noted for film work IIRC, just TV (and in the case of Arthur, the stage) and the Academy isn't about entertainment in general, just film -- or whatever they're calling glorified video games like Avatar now. In addition to MJ, they found room for some agent or publicist or somebody. WTF?

Someone goofed up bigtime.

I'm sorry, not meaning to be snarky, but was Ed McMahon an actor? I only remember him from Publishers Clearinghouse commercials and Star Search. And the Tonight Show, I think, right? But still, not as an actor.

I loved Bea Arthur, too, but the only one of those I think they definitely should have included is Farrah Fawcett, as she was a big movie star at one time. I also understand including MJ. He loved movies and did a lot for cinema and kind of bringing various aspects of entertainment together in the 80's, not to mention he was entertainment personified during his heyday.

To Anon 5:26 - Bea Arthur, Ed McMahon and Farrah Fawcett were all actors. McMahon and Arthur were each in films as well as television, though they each only made a handful of movies. Believe it or not, there actually was history before you were born.

Just because Jacko loved movies does not mean he should be honored at a film ceremony INSTEAD of people who devoted their lives to the craft.

Pretty crappy to leave out Farrah and Bea. I didn't realize it until the following day, but that's just rude.
