Does Anybody Really Buy The Act?

Since we have already established that it is not easy to be "gay in Hollywood," you then have to wonder.  Does anyone really ever buy the image that stars try to sell them?  You have some celebs who tip of the paparazzi with information of there whereabouts to that they stay relevant, and some that embrace that charade with open arms.

What I am trying to understand is, why put so much hard work and effort into something that people are questioning anyway?  You have two people who are forced to act like a happy couple when most of the time they cannot stand each other.  So many people are hurt by the outcome of these situations and innocent people get sucked into so much, I don't think it is wort it.
Does the studios think we are stupid.  I mean, it's obvious that some people do fall in love while filming.  Well, in lust.  But when every single co-star begins pairing up, did they think we wouldn't notice?  And now not only movie studios, but television networks have discovered the same recipe.  I personally still do not get the appeal of seeing a movie or watching a show just because the co-stars are together.  Doesn't everyone realize that
it's a movie, not Real World?  We aren't not getting a glimpse into their lives.

Of course there are levels to the showmance.  You have your PB, paparazzi buddy.  They are generally just someone that you get photographed with in places that it seems you were trying to avoid it.  Then you have you Shipmates.  They are the ones that you are actually "dating" and must be seen at least once a day doing normal things.  Then you have the contractors.  They are the ones who walk down the aisle.  Usually only lasting a couple of years just to garner publicity.  All of these are meant for publicity but a lot of them usually a bigger name with a smaller name.

But when the stars go into the showmance willingly, it is usually to hide something.  For instance, if sexuality is an issue, obviously a beard is the way to go.  But some have such big stars in their eyes that they know by hooking up, they will get stalkerazzi after them.  Some have spun such huge public stories that they have lost themselves in the whole mess.

But does anyone really buy any of it?  Fans already suspect things about their favorite stars and when you try to shove something fake down their throats they are going to know.  Don't stars realize that fame is something you can never fully catch?  You will be chasing it constantly.  You can fake all you want to get where you want to be, but in the end you will end up alone.  When the contracts run out, and the secrets are revealed, you lose everything you have worked for.  So I hope all the money is enough, because that's all you, and maybe I, will have to keep us warm at night.

I love, love, love when you do blogs like this.

IMHO, there are two things at work here: terrified producers/studios who have no idea what is going on in the real world but care about possibly losing $$ along the way, and, secondly, not really understanding the flyover part of the country. When something like the Blind Side, which was roundly denigrated in NY/LA scores big in the rest of the country, those suits at home grab their Xanax and realize they know nothing.

You only have to look at the Twihard crazies to see that there is a (scarily) huge segment of the population that NEEDS co-stars to be in love in real life. I find this amazingly frightening. That people would thrust upon ACTORS the need to be their characters.

It's easy to say it's all a bunch of 12 year olds, but we know better. It's the married 50 year olds as well, who yearn for something they don't have in their own lives.

But no one has what fiction has. We all deal with the problems of real life.

And, if believing that Bones & Booth live out in Emily and David (which isn't true) makes people watch the show and sell the advertising $$, you know the networks and producers and everyone involved is going to do what they can to nudge that little fantasy on to the utmost.

Ha ha, nice manip of Jensen and Daneel. Isn't it insulting to Dannel that there is not a SINGLE photo of her and Jensen where they look and touch as a bro and sis, at best? Not to mention smile sincerely at each other?

think that was a dig? all the other pics are real. HA HA, he is telling us something, dunno what. Hmmm

Hey GB!
don't you see you are guilty of the same thing? Aren't you play acting in real life, pretending to be straight to keep your career? Are people buying your act? God man, buy a clue.

did you not read the last part of the blog? Idiot

"So I hope all the money is enough, because that's all you, and maybe I, will have to keep you warm at night."

he is not pointing the finger, he is asking if it is worth it? He said he does it. You haters are stupid

Good post. And no, at this point I don't believe it even when there are children involved. Children being the by-product of said relationships. I wonder how many kids there are in this town that were produced to provide cover for their parents. Veys mir.

People do what works!
If fauxmances didn't pay off, the suits would find a new way to manipulate their audiences.

But we go to the movies and watch the shows, too, even if we know about the crap. So what difference does it make to the suits that we aren't fooled?

Great post GB! I think it isn't worth it because this lying just screws everyone up. Still can't belive Jared went ahead and got married to someone his network set him up with. Anyone who sells their soul for fame like Jared and maybe Jensen is going to wave good-bye to their integrity.

honestly? I'm crying, right now. it makes me so unexpicably sad knowing that there is people who was lucky enough to find their soulmate, something so freaking rare that anyone else would kill to find it, and have to keep it hidden and will never be able to truly live it.

besides, the idea of people like you, people who are smart, sensitive and have a lot to give are forced to live a lie. it hurts, it hurts so much I can't stand it.

sometimes people asks me why I'm so into the J stuff, or a lot of other pairing, and accuses me of seeing what I want to see; believe me, if I could choose what to see, I would choose not to see J2 and the rest, because it hurts me and no one willingly chooses to suffer.

WTF nonnie? Its all a bit of fun (for us anyway), get over yourself with the 'selling souls' BS! Spinning some PR in HW and not coming out as gay so as to have any kind of career ain't really all that big a deal ya know ;)

acting is such a weird profession, imo. Like, how do you differentiate between real emotions and "fake" ones when you're trying to give a "Realistic" performance? And then there's the whole "method acting" theory..where you have to "live it" to portray it. Anyway, I think a lot of these people just act. ALL. THE. TIME. There is no REAL PERSON there. Its all an act. all the time.

I like Danneel but I wish Jensen would stop all this fuckety. He was much cooler before he stared selling it so hard.

Two thumbs up to godo's comment. That same manip was used by a fan recently to "prove" their love is real. I'm torn - on the one hand I feel sorry for actors who feel they have to engage in this sort of sham, but on the other I'm insulted that they expect me to believe in these relationships which are so obviously fake.

Is acting in movies really so awesome that people will go through all of this to keep getting roles? I feel like it has more to do with the fame and the money. For people who already have all the money they would ever need to keep up the farce is sad to me. But imo being a celebrity is one of the worst things I could ever imagine, so I guess I don't understand people who put up with all of it.

i don't know why people want actors to be perfect? the human nature isn't perfect.
i love gossips but when i saw a movie,i don't care if Jackman sex with his business associate when i think he's credible in ambitious magician!
if Christian Bale is lunatic or doesn't talk with his mother,it's "good for him " but honestly that doesn't change my idea he's a great character actor!

No bearding is not worth. What's the point of making all those millions and then not being able and go out and enjoy with your partner but just do photo ops with your beard. As we can tell from Jake&Reese, bearding doesn't work. Jake not only looked miserable most of the time with his beard, but it aged him, made him act like an asshole to paps and fans alot of the time, made him a laughing stock and for such a good actor, he couldn't even act like an in love, perfect boyfriend he was supposed to be. Look at him now, he looks younger, happy, sexy and carefree.

Hey! If Holden's comment is gone, delete mine too. Now I'm begging you. i like things tidy.

"WTF nonnie? Its all a bit of fun (for us anyway), get over yourself with the 'selling souls' BS!"

It's all a bit of fun? Maybe for you, but in real life gays are treated as 2nd class citizens. Actors have way too much influence, but wtf! Be good to your self and be honest! And, be good to others and help, not hinder acceptance.

Jared and Genevieve are the fakest couple.
Not so sure about Jensen and Danneel. I kinda like them.

Anonymous said...

I dont think one can be a faker gf than Danneel. She shut up now, but she thinks people will forget her visit to Ted and her hugs for haters?

Anonymous said...

It would be interesting to see a blog on how much worse the bearding and fake relationships have become since fans have taken to Twitter, FB, Myspace and all the other networking sites.

As for the fakers - Danneel is the worst one ever. She is bearding for Jensen for the sole purpose of increasing her own fan base.

As for Gen/Jared - they are bearding too, but I think Jared might honestly care for Gen at least on some level and can make it look more convincing. Jensen and Danneel - never have, never will.

@dunc,
I agree. But just because we can see through it, doesn't mean some people aren't fooled. There's one born every minute..

Yeah, I liked him more before this, too.

This co-star thing needs to stop, it's nauseating! No one buys it especially when you have celebrities that are conveniently seen out and about with their co-star right before the premiere and then they do the same with the next movie and a new person. It has been done so much it no longer has shock value. The suits really need to open their eyes and realize HW can not be the same that it was because we have this little thing called the INTERNET and it allows for no misleading and mystery. Who buys tabloids anymore? It would be so refreshing to see celebrities out living their normal lives with their normal relationships and not make a PR move out of it. Gay or straight.

breaks my heart. i know it's corny but i want to hug you GB. so here's sending you and all your conflicted closeted brethren and sistren, a big hug.
